6 Tips for Staying Organized as a Work-at-Home Mom

As a work-at-home moms we can often times get overwhelmed and disorganized. MomsTown founders, Mary and Heather, offer six valuable tips to ensure your sanity day in and day out.

1. Know Your Goal
It's time for clarity. Know what it takes to achieve your goals. Write down your goals and post them where you can see them every day.

2. Create a Schedule
Working from home can be challenging. There are so many distractions. The laundry, the pantry, the household bills.... it's easy to get distracted and stay distracted. Creating a schedule and using timers and/or alarm clocks will help you. Carve out a specific time to do work on your business, do household chores, and to work on your personal finances. Sticking to a schedule will help you stay on task and achieve the goals you have set.

3. Clear Desk Equals Clear Mind
Get rid of the clutter that's been stacking up on your desk, on the floor, in the cabinets. Purge the clutter, set up a good filing system and use it.

4. Divide and Conquer
Separate your personal paperwork, bills, etc. from your business paperwork. It's a good idea if you have the room to do it, to set up two distinct filing cabinets; one for personal files, the other for business files.

5. Use Time Wisely
Make notes or catch up on reading while waiting for appointments or to pick up the kids from school. Listen to motivational CDs or podcasts while driving. You're busy, but remember, time is on your side. Don't fall into the trap of thinking the clock is ticking against you. Embrace it as your ally and you'll win.

6. Label It
Create bins or storage boxes for items and be sure to label them. Know what's where without having to lift a lid.

Enjoy success being organized!
